Michael Calabrese is a Vice President of Development with Surmount (formerly UGDC). Michael joined Surmount in 2023 and oversees development activities and strategic initiatives across the Surmount platform.

Michael has broad experience in de novo development, tenant buildouts, finance, leasing, and strategic planning. Michael’s development and real estate career began at Hospital for Special Surgery (“HSS”) in New York City where he was responsible for their real estate development and strategy functions. Under Michael’s leadership, HSS expanded its footprint from 15 properties, primarily on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, to 36 properties spread across the tri-state area and Florida. Michael also led HSS’s strategic real estate expansion initiative to create their first two outpatient ambulatory surgery centers.

Prior to working with Surmount, Michael led the development team of New Jersey based Veritas Veterinary Partners, a specialty and emergency veterinary hospital network. At Veritas, Michael oversaw real estate acquisitions and complex developments of new hospitals and urgent cares. Michael graduated from New York University’s Stern School of Business with a degree in Accounting and lives in New Jersey with his wife and son.
